Introducing our sub & affiliate clubs!
Community is what drives Our Vision at The Westport Club. We are driven to making a significant contribution to the quality of community life and supporting others and organisations to do the same! This year we are very excited to be bringing back our inaugural ‘Celebration of Vision’ event for 2023. The celebration that takes place during an event like this is to honour our community and praise the wonderful contributions they each make to support our vision.
In anticipation for this event, we have been meeting with each of our Sub & Affiliate Clubs to capture and share their unique stories. Our fourteen Sub & Affiliate clubs are closely linked with the foundations of our club and work with our Community Engagement Manager, Karen Faichney, collaborating to support and provide opportunities to enrich their communities. We want to shine a light on a club that embodies our very Vision – creating a connected and supportive community within our region.
Who are The Port Macquarie Croquet Club?
The Port Macquarie Croquet Club is a sub-club in our community, sharing a combined passion of the game of croquet and creating an active social outlet for members to connect. This club is a beautiful group of local members of various ages and skill levels, who meet regularly at the Croquet Clubhouse next door to The Westport Club bowling greens – socialising, connecting, and of course playing Croquet! The club plays several variations of the game, providing excitement and challenge to members. An amazing outlet for members to get out and enjoy a game that gets them thinking and keeps them active with like-minded people.
What is Croquet?
Croquet is a leisurely outdoor game that combines strategy, skill, and friendly competition. Played on a grassy court, the objective is to navigate wooden balls through a series of wickets using mallets. The game is typically enjoyed by two to four players, either individually or in teams. To start, players place their balls at the starting point and take turns striking them with mallets, aiming to pass through the wickets in a specific sequence. The player who successfully navigates the wickets and hits the center peg first wins the game. Along the way, players can strategically send opponents’ balls off course, adding a layer of tactics. Croquet is a delightful way to spend time outdoors, encouraging a balance of skill and competitive spirit among players.
The club is always looking for new members to join their game! Young or old, skill or no skill – the beautiful members of The Port Macquarie Croquet Club will always be happy to teach and coach new players. The Port Macquarie Croquet Club is a great sub-club within our community, and we look forward to sharing more of their story with short interview snippets over on our Facebook & Instagram pages.
