Our welcoming Port Macquarie community is constantly growing. Here at The Westport Club, we focus on giving back to the community and endeavour to support those in need. Last year, our Christmas Under the Stars festival was a huge success, along with our partners, The Salvation Army!

Community involvement with The Salvation Army

Here at The Westport Club, we strive to maintain a strong relationship with the Port Macquarie community and to give back whenever we can. Our efforts wouldn’t be possible without one of our main welfare community partners, The Salvation Army. Together we have created a multitude of community involvement based projects. For example, we co-sponsored the purchase of their emergency vehicle. Furthermore, we host the annual breakfast to launch the Red Shield Appeal and manned a collection point for the Red Shield Appeal doorknock.

Most recently, we supported The Salvos’ local Christmas hamper appeal with funds raised from our annual event, Christmas Under the Stars.

Christmas Under the Stars at The Westport Club

Christmas Under the Stars is one of our favourite and most exciting community involvement events. Guests are awed by the gorgeous views of the Hastings River, a stone’s throw away from our lawns on which the event takes place. Last year, our event attracted over 3,000 festive community members. With lights, entertainment, and festivities, the celebration yielded a wonderful night of family fun. Australian personality Tim Campbell hosted the crowd. Amazing local artists and choirs also performed. Everyone joined in with the Christmas spirit as they sang and danced the night away.

But our festival is about more than bringing in Christmas cheer. The celebration is an ideal platform for community involvement. We ask for donations that are directed to The Salvation Army. These donations allow disadvantaged families within the wonderful Port Macquarie community a chance to celebrate the holidays.

The Salvation Army and Christmas Under the Stars

We are privileged to support The Salvation Army as a beneficiary of the donations collected at Christmas Under the Stars for the past 10 years.  In 2016, we’re pleased to let you know that the $2,000 donation enabled The Salvation Army to distribute over 150 food hampers to those in need.

Working together, we helped 472 members of our community who were doing it tough. This heart-warming support ensured that those less fortunate in our community could celebrate Christmas with some extra trimmings.

The Westport Club’s community involvement

Our extended efforts with The Salvation Army make us quite proud. Plus we also support dozens of other local organisations.  In the last 12 months we have supported or sponsored over 38 community, welfare, volunteer (not for profit) groups and charities. In 2016 alone, The Westport Club contributed $471,294 to the Port Macquarie community. We also remain active in community activities, such as local sporting clubs and holding festivities.
