As another year draws to a close, The Westport Club’s flagship event – Christmas Under the Stars – was held in Westport park to celebrate our community and all that is wonderful about the festive season. It was a fantastic evening filled with Christmas spirit that kick-started this magical time of the year.
We were very lucky to have Tania Kernaghan join us to headline the event. Tania is one of Australia’s best-known Country Music stars and multi Golden Guitar Award winner! Tania was the first female artist to be inducted into the Galaxy of Stars Walk of Fame in Tamworth and has earned fifteen number one radio hits. Tania did an amazing job at both MC’ing and leading the ecstatic crowd in some joyful Christmas carols – she had everyone up and dancing! We were very excited to have some of our local RFS heroes on the stage while the song ‘Ash on Their Face’ was performed by Hamish McDonald, who wrote the song as a tribute to these brave men and women. We also had wonderful performances by Angus Gill, Coastal Opera Group, Dean Weston, Port Macquarie Performing Arts, and a variety of other local talent.
Attendees were treated to a fun filled evening of activities; including kids’ amusements, a BBQ supporting Marine Rescue, and various food and drink stalls by local vendors. The Westport Club’s Hastings Coffee Co. served coffee and food from its takeaway window. Santa and Mrs Claus’ arrival was, as always, a highlight of the night as children ran to say hello and pass on any last-minute present requests.
This year, attendees were able to contribute to a fantastic donation to support our local RFS brigades through a $2 per person entry fee. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the final figure for the donation came to $4782 and wish to extend a warm thank you to all of those who joined us on the night to make this donation possible.
We would also like to thank our wonderful collection volunteers from Westport Women’s Bowling Club, Port Macquarie Basketball Association, Hastings Morning Talkers Toastmaster Group, The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West and West Port Macquarie Tennis Club who selflessly gave of their time to work at the event and without whom the event would not have been possible.
The team at the Westport Club would like to wish our community a very merry Christmas and look forward to another amazing Christmas Under the Stars in 2020!
